10/30/2017

Picture
Any idea what day it is today (other than Monday, October 30, 2017)?

It’s World Audio Drama Day!!

What is World Audio Drama Day, you ask?

It is an annual holiday that takes place on October 30th of every year. It’s a day to listen to your favorite audio drama(s), new and old, and share this beautiful medium with others who may not know about it. The 30th of October was selected for this holiday as it is the anniversary of the most well-known radio program of all time, Orson Welles’ broadcast, War of the Worlds, first aired in 1938.

Find out more about World Audio Drama day at www.audiodramaday.com

In honor of the day, we thought to share with you the audio dramas we have created, as well as some of the team’s favorites.

Sarah, Plain and Tall

Released in February 2016, Sarah, Plain and Tall is our first audio drama. Based off the famous historical fiction novel by Patricia MacLachlan, it is a heartwarming, emotional story about a family on the western frontier.

“Well done, Ichthus! You have a very good piece here” – Nathan Kuphall, creator of Alex and Borble

Lies and Otherwise

Our second audio production, Lies and Otherwise, was a short sketch with lovable characters, and biblical morals.

“Honestly I think one big take away, other than the messages in the story, that I got personally, was a love for audio drama. You guys love audio drama, and it shows through.” – Christopher Green, writer and producer for Shadows and Daylight

And here are some our team’s favorite audio dramas.

DOWN GILEAD LANE  (Victoria and Josiah’s favorite)

DGL is 12 season long audio drama series produced by Keys for Kids Ministries, formerly known as CBH Ministries. Set in the little town of Coleraine, it depicts the Morrison family’s adventures and struggles with strong Christian messages portrayed throughout. Great for the whole family!

BEN HUR (Isabella's favorite)

Ben Hur is an audio drama adaptation of the famous book by Lew Wallace. Released by Focus on the Family Radio Theatre in 2001, it is an action packed Biblical fiction drama for the whole family!

JONATHAN PARK: (Elijah's favorite)

Jonathan Park action-packed audio adventures are for kids and families. The stories are full of faith-building and educational evidence for a Creator. This series is an old favorite of ours, and we come back to listen to the albums again and again!

WHITE GYPSY (Sarah Grace's favorite)

White Gypsy from Lamplighter Theatre is a dramatic tale of loss, sacrifice, hope and redemption. Based off the book by Annette Lyster originally published in 1881, this is also an audio drama we come back to again and again!

FATHER KNOWS BEST (family favorite)

Father Knows Best is an Old Time Radio show that first started airing in August 1949 on NBC Radio. Created by Ed James, Father Knows Best follows the lives of the Andersons, a middle class family living in the Midwestern town of Springfield. All of us love listening to this particular OTR show, and with over 200 episodes, we always have more to download and listen to!

There you go! Now go listen to some audio dramas and share your favorites of this amazing medium with your friends and family!

What are your favorite audio dramas? Have you listened to any of the ones we mentioned?

A Recapitulation of 2016

12/30/2016

Comments

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times”

to quote Charles Dickens. 2016 has been a crazy busy year, filled with good times, and hard times, but God has been faithful through it all!

Here is a recap of the things we have worked on in the last year:

In January, we released a song for the New year. It was a quiet month, as we wrapped up the final touches of our first audio drama.

In February, we released our first ever audio drama, Sarah, Plain and Tall. It was the product of a year’s worth of work, and a quite a few years’ worth of dreaming. We also released a short, 4-song “EP” about love, including Beautiful, How Deep the Father’s Love for Us, Live Like You’re Loved, and Even Me,  which featured the vocal talents of Elisa Yvonne and Isabella. Live Like You’re Loved has by far become our most popular production, reaching over 1000 plays on Soundcloud. We also celebrated the release of Do Unto Others, a short audio drama produced by Audio Drama Alliance, in which Sarah Grace assisted in post-production.

In March, we released a short-form audio drama skit entitled Lies and Otherwise. Isabella’s debut into the script writing world was quite a success.  We also released a piano duet version of Forever by Kari Jobe just in time for Easter.

We started a podcast in April, called Our Favorite Things | A ChatCast. The hosts, Victoria and Sarah Grace chat about their favorite media, everything from books and music, to audio dramas, and more! We have since released 12 episodes. We also released what is perhaps one of our favorite songs, A Jungle Book Medley. The Audio Drama Alliance released their second production in association with IFP.

We started our May with the release of Even When It Hurts, cover of Hillsong. It embodied some of our emotions as we struggled with the passing of a loved one. We also announced our next audio drama, Treasure Seekers, which is still in production. Also in May, we shared two piano solos, Midnight Rhapsody, and Moonlight Fantasy, by Sarah Grace and Victoria, respectively.

In June, we shared three songs, Times, cover of Tenth Avenue North, a piano solo No More Tears, and an a Capella version of It is Well, which we dedicated in loving memory of Sharon Felten. Mrs. Felten, who passed away on May 23rd, 2016, was an amazing wife, mama, friend, and musician, and we were honored to produce this song in her honor.

In July, we released a version of our country’s national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner. We also kicked up production on Treasure Seekers and really got rolling.

August, we also busily worked away on Treasure Seekers,  releasing one song, a Polonaise by Bach.

For September, we again released one song, The Acceleration of Time. The voice track editing for Treasure Seekers drew to a close, and we started working on Foley and sound design. Audio Drama Alliance released their 3rd production, also in association with IFP

In October we celebrated IFP’s first anniversary with a huge giveaway. We also shared the trailer and cover art for Treasure Seekers on World Audio Drama day. Audio Drama Alliance released their 4th production, written by none other than Victoria herself.

November 1st we released a song that was very dear to our hearts, More of You, cover of Colton Dixon. Also, we produced Still the One in honor of the 28th anniversary of two of the most important people in our lives, our parents, Brian and Michelle.

We kicked off December with our first ever music video! ‘December Song’ was a ton of fun to work on, and it was a pleasure working with our videographer, Matthew. We also shared a unique piano solo arrangement of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

That wraps up our 2016 year in recap! Thank you all so much for being on this journey with us. Without your support, we couldn’t continue doing what we are doing. You guys are the best! Here’s to 2017! God bless you all!

By God’s grace alone,
The team at Ichthus Family Productions.

Sarah, Plain and Tall Reaches 100 Plays

7/14/2016

Comments

Hello everyone!

A few days ago, I noticed we had reached 100 plays on Sarah, Plain and Tall. I think some thanks are in order.

In February of 2015, Ichthus Family Productions started out with the simple idea to make an audio drama. We had no hopes of anything big, we just loved audio drama, and wanted to try our hand at making it. We didn’t think very many people would listen to it, just family and a few friends. We decided to do an adaptation of a book that is a family favorite of our’s.
We wrote this on a whim, recorded it with a borrowed copy of Ableton and a borrowed microphone. Ableton wasn’t working for us, so we ended up waiting 3 months for a new, free software to come out. A friend gifted us with a copy of a similar free software, and we were back in business.
By now it was July, and we hoped to have a release date of sometime in September. At this point, after a brain storming session at the dinner table, we came up with the name Ichthus Family Productions. We decided to start a website, but that didn’t happen until the end of October. We all worked really hard, but were still a long way off from the September deadline we hoped for. That deadline got pushed to October 1st, then November, finally we hoped for the beginning of January 2016, but that too got bumped back to February 9th, 2016.

We finally finished Sarah, Plain and Tall and released it on February 9th.

We were so thrilled at the feedback we got so quickly! We started out with the hopes of maybe 20 people listening to it, but, thanks to you guys’ help, it grew so much bigger!

We would like to thank all of you who listened to Sarah, Plain and Tall, but specifically those who listened and told us what they thought.

Thank you to Roy, Tobin, Colton, Nathan, JD, Christopher, HelloItsMello, and Auterey.

We would also like to thank specifically JD Sutter and the team at Audio Theatre Central for their amazing review of Sarah, Plain and Tall,  Christopher Green for promoting it, and Auterey for sharing it on his online radio station.

We wouldn’t be doing what we are doing without you guys! Thank you so much for your overwhelming support! God bless you guys!

Blessings,
Sarah Grace

May News

Hey everyone!
Welcome to May! Spring is finally here! Here is some stuff we have planned for May.

AUDIO DRAMA:
We have finalized the script for our next audio drama and we cannot wait to for you to hear it! Writing went very well. After a few fun team “brainstorm” meetings, Victoria had it written in about a week’s time. It is going to be even bigger and better (hopefully) than Sarah, Plain and Tall! This month we will begin recording, and hopefully get into post-production by the end of the month. I (Sarah Grace) am getting itchy to do some sound design! It’s going to be a lot of fun! We may even have a guest star(s)!  Stay on the lookout for more details coming soon! We are so excited for this one! Here is a sneak peak of the script!  Grab a magnifying glass!

Also, in early April, The Audio Drama Alliance (of which IFP is thrilled to be a part of) released their second production, in which Victoria helped in post-production. Check that out here if you haven’t already. Also in the works for ADA is another production, which both Victoria and I will be a part of. We can’t wait for you to hear that one also. We will be sure to let you know when it releases.

MUSIC:
This month we plan to release some pieces from me, Victoria, and Isabella. Some vocal and a few piano solos we think you guys will enjoy! Stay on the lookout for those!

OUR FAVORITE THINGS | A CHATCAST:
If you guys remember, in April we started our podcast, Our Favorite Things | A ChatCast. We released the first two episodes and plan to release two more here in May. Our next episode will be about two novels written by independent author, Julia Erickson. Keep your eyes on the Our Favorite Things website, and if you haven’t already, check out our first two episodes!

God bless and have a wonderful day!

Blessings,
Sarah Grace

Behind the Scenes of Sarah, Plain and Tall

3/18/2016

Comments

Hey guys!

Here’s some behind-the-scene (BTS) stories from the making of Sarah, Plain and Tall!

We honestly had NO clue what we were doing when we first started! To be perfectly (and quite brutally) honest, I (Sarah Grace) knew next to nothing about recording\sound design. Someone asked me what I was “recording into”, and I had no idea what he was talking about! I didn’t know what a DAW was, and I certainly had no idea how to even begin sound designing. This was definitely a learning process!

How Deep the Father's Love for Us

Hey All!

Happy belated Valentine’s Day! Number 2 on our Month of Love playlist:
How Deep the Father’s Love for Us. This is one of my (Sarah Grace’s) all-time favorite songs, and I may be prejudiced, but Victoria does it full justice! While we intended to finish this song in time to release on Valentine’s Day, a few things came up and we weren’t able to finish it.

So, enjoy this version of
How Deep the Father’s Love for Us.

Recap of 2015

1/1/2016

Comments

While the launch of Ichthus Family Productions occurred in November, This dream really started in January and our first project started in February.

The Script for Sarah Plain and tall was written/adapted from the book in all of 2 days and we were off and rolling.
Unfortunately, it would take us a few months to start recording because we were railroaded by the nastiest cold that I have ever experienced. Translated to 6-8 weeks of congestion and cough. I was so fed up waiting, that we finally started recording and often had to suck on cough drops between takes.
